To my eye BORIS work was at it's best in the 70s & 80s (with the exception of the MIRASGE & ENCHANTMENT books) then he started to...Americanise his work too much with modern looking los Angelis hair & orange skin tones, like a ....ing Chippendales strip dancer, plus SOME VERY brightly coloured back ground vistas, it's a crying shame that he never returned to his Michaelangelo style roots with the less real life body types that had that...slight distorted look & more realistic flesh tones.
Isnt your video/chanel called - HOW TO PAINT LIKE BORIS VALLEJO? BUT you don't even pick up a paint brush, or so much as a lead pencil, if you are meaning the art technique book speaks for you, it doesnt, I have this quite old know Art technique book & am none the wiser for your video, in fact why not display some of your work here, I'd be interested to see it, even if it's not in the fantasy genra.
Moorcock is one of the biggest writers out there? I disagree, he is morel like one of the most underground authors out there, usually only referenced when his communist self is trying to ragg on somebody more famous and skilled than himself that he has a dep misunderstanding of: Tolkien.
maybe moorcock is very happy with his level of wealth and doesn't need hundreds of millions of dollars throwing at him . maybe he has seen what happened to star wars , first 3 movies - great , everything after -rubbish , and doesn't want his 'baby' taken away from him by american money men. maybe he's seen grr martin and doesnt want to be executive prodcer on set and everyone begging him to release the last 2 novels that will explain everything , and publicity tours (at his age) .i can't see Elric lunchboxes or Elric mickey mouse timex watches ever being popular . finally elric is meant to be slightly alien .he isn't human . the white skin , the red eyes ,the tapering long head/face could involve a lot of makeup/cgi and might still come off very naff. having said all that i would love a movie/series ,. when they did the 1st few pirates of the caribbean movies i thought "hmm might be time for elric , the sailing ships and gods and monsters can now be done with these day's tech" but they've become a bit of a cash cow now . maybe we should just leave it all alone . it can still be our little secret among the cool kids and geeks . i'm still waiting for the norse eddas to have a decent world spanning trilogy of films but i dunno who i'd trust to do them and it's a very similar set up to elric's gotterdammerung :)
i keep thinking of john carter movie that bombed . people sat there going "ho hum seen all this before " not realising the 1st novel was out about 100 years ago and that's where nearly every scifi movie stole their stuffz from.
I designed and 3d printed my own catastrophe. If you don’t understand, then you don’t Xanth.

I dont think anyone wants anything to do with his work. A lot of the books he wrote are sexist, misogynistic and borderline pdf file stuff. Not to mention hes more prolife then the most annoying right wing jerks. He thinks teenagers should be incubators for their male owners
Good times!
Oh, and the other actor was Legendary Basketball all-time great Wilt Chamberlain, seven foot two inches tall.
Posters or covers by Boris Vallejo or Julie Bell (his wife/protege/model). Starring Sybil Danning, produced by Roger Corman. Always a terrible movie, almost always watchable. Roger Corman gave a start to more great actors, directors and screenwriters than any three other people in Hollywood. He gave them tiny budgets and they made okay movies that all made money. He made classic sci fi, biker films, karate movies, space fantasies, you name it. He could get more movie out of less money than anyone in history.
Love your thumbnail! Also. Love the content, I watched alot of these movies as a kid. Good times.
It's great when you talk about video games 👍
For years I been saying the Thomas Covenant books would make an excellent movie especially by Spielberg I said that b4 Hogwarts etc so I really hope this new film does these books justice because they are fantastic kept me going in bad time in my life thank you to the brilliant author you defo hot the power that preserves save my life xxxx
It has probably already been said, but Piers himself is the reason Hollywood hasn't done anything by him yet. He has a very low opinion of Hollywood's ability to adapt books into a movie or show.
The comics go back to the 70's the original stories go back to the thirties, I think the original writer died around 1940.😅
Wish there were movies made, but the reality is there are just too many book series out there to realistically expect movies to be made. They're doing good to make the LOTR series (despite the many crimes they did in the movies to the books).
It would make a great series. I only hope they would fix the weak ending. This was a fascinating series for 9 1/2 books, but the author didn't know how to tie up the lose ends in a meaningful way. While TV is famous for ruining good books (Divergent, Shannara, etc.), I don't think it could end more poorly and abruptly.
My favorite Kyle MacLachlan movie by far is the extremely underrated THE HIDDEN. It's one of the best action/sci-fi/horror movies ever made.
Lord of light Roger Zelazny Net of Dreams Mark Simmons Ukiah Oregon & Tinker Wen Spencer
Love Piers Anthony, I have been collecting and reading the Xanth books since I was 11 years old. There are now 47 of them. They started in 1979.
I love total Recall
You were 100% correct. The main issue is: if it has a good/great story, I don't really care how good or bad the special effects are. And, really, bad effects are fine, since the viewer already knows that Medusa isn't real, and people don't fight skeletons in real life, so trying to make them 'realistic' is unnecessary.
It doesn't need a movie, but if it were to be a movie, I believe that Doug Jones would make a good Elric. It would make a really good anime (specifically rather than a cartoon). I'm not against cartoons but the style is really so different.
I recently watched Aghar on Amazon prime & it reminded me of heavy metal for some reason . They also have fire & ice on there & a lot of other similar animated movies
It is a great series. I recently listened to the series again in audio version. Sad that the beginning puts off so many readers.
Excellent art review.
Great artist been getting his calendar for a few years
because we have idiot like poserfist praising his work on youtube, that is anti promotion for Michael Moorcock movies
My personal solution to art block is Jpegs. I have folders of screenshots of my favourite anime. I’m grey headed, too, so my favorite TV shows & anime are all old. I’ve filled many pages in my sketchbook with recreations of those screenshots. Update: I just noticed your lamp. I LOVE IT!
Rings of ice is my favourite book by Piers Anthony.
Bet it's better than carnivora or morbus gravis
Late to the convo. But I absolutely love the idea of 100% verbatim conversions. It's a different medium and I don't like when the silver screen deviates at all. I just want the same story but with sound and vision tickling the brain. Case in point. The lord of the rings trilogy. Not an example of absolute verbatim. But very faithful to the source material. Another example is Harry Potter. To this day, the die hard fans lament how much was cut in the adaptation.
Space ship lost is just a great plot. Imagine them comong back 300 years later and meeting a completely different society.
Queen writing the music for Flash Gordon is like Metallica writing the music för 1984
In the movie Barberella there's a character called Duran Duran; John Taylor and Nick Rhodes (of the band Duran Duran) named their band after the character. Life came full circle when the band released a song called "Electric Barberella" in 1997.
A animated series on Netflix like Blue Eyed Samurai is a good way to go
Decades ago, I bought all 6 books of Thomas Covenant The Unbeliever and the Bannon incerp book. I read them through at least 8 times and cherished them. The value of the Land's health and power, and the inhabitants' endurance to preserve the harmony of the land captured my heart. I've enjoyed Piers Anthony's colorful Xanth series, Robert A. Heinlein's avalanche of intellect in his books and Isaac Asimov wonderful books, and Anne McAffrey's fascinating Dragonriders of Pern which made a deep impression. But Stephen R Donaldson reached in and pulled my heart out into an expanse of emotions that painted a tapestry that has stayed with me most. Thomas's success was in giving his life to heal the land that healed him in return.
That window is gone should have made a cartoon 30 years ago or Saturday morning show
Two reasons why not, at least the past couple dwcades- First, there's Burroughs' 'John Carter' flopped hard at the box office, for a boatload of reasons. Also, Terry Brooks' 'Shannara' TV series was a horrific mess, despite the author being exec producer Now, why there weren't movies in the 1980's, the heyday of sword & sorcery? I can only guess that Moorcock was indeed contacted for licensing, and he said, 'yeaaaaahhhh, nah'
Let me do you one better. How about the Prince of Thorns as a live action movie?
The Constantine TV series is really good, highly recommended, shame it got canned after one series - its much closer to the source material than the movie ... although I still enjoyed Keanu's effort. Oh and of course the series has a British actor playing a British character 😊
very nice video. i would like to hear your thoughts on one particular movie if you are willing to share. the movie in question is from Yugoslavia and the title is Visitors from other galaxy
Great watch recommendations. Always good to see someone speak with passion, brings meanings to all this life.
Love old school sci fi art especially 70s,80s and that includes Jim burns
Good video! Have you seen, "Altered States?" I recommend it if not
quantity over quality
because he threw shade at tolkien and his fantasy work was subpar in comparison.
I don't know if this gonna get any hate, but I always thought that Moorecock's work would lend itself well to old school gritty 80s anime.
